Everyday Cotton Dog Coat for Whippets and Sighthounds

Not every walk needs a winter coat. This is the everyday one: soft cotton, lightly lined, quick to put on and easy to wash when it comes back muddy.

Whippet skin is thin and marks easily, so the inside is smooth with no rough seams across the chest or under the front legs, which is where rubbing usually starts.

When you would reach for it

Spring and autumn. Cool mornings that are not actually cold. The dog who wants something on but would be too warm in fleece.

Fit and care

Cut for a deep chest and a narrow waist, and long enough in the body to sit properly on a sighthound rather than riding up over the loin. To size it, measure along the spine from the base of the neck to the base of the tail and match that to the size guide. Machine wash at 30 degrees.
